Trade Event Marketing
Toronto 2017 ATX Floorplan

Client

Informa | United Business Media | Canon Communications

In 2009, Canon Communications purchased the PACK EX Toronto trade show from The Packaging Association of Canada and ComExposium group out of France. At the same time Canon purchased the PLAST-EX show from the Plastics Association of Canada. Canon Communications at the time had a mix of trade events in the USA but none in the Greater Toronto area. In this show setup, different brands of events are packaged together for one large event: ATX, Quality, Plastics, Design Manufacturing, Packaging, ATX and Powder Bulk industry. Since the show’s beginning, the show has been acquired by UBM, now Informa.

Project

Create and launch an event, from zero exhibitors on the show floor to over 500 exhibitors for the 2011 trade event. Build up interest and excitement, speakers and gain attendee email addresses, to create a valued show experience for all attendees, partners and exhibitors.

Challenge

Informa wanted to serve an untapped Canadian audience with a large event that could become a premier opportunity for Central and Eastern Canadian manufacturing companies to promote their business. They also wanted to extend the current Automation, Plastics, Design & Manufacturing and Powder & Bulk Solids brands from the US into the Canadian forum.

Solution

The project was a success. After 2 years of connecting with and engaging exhibitors and speakers, the first show in 2011 was sold out mainly to Canadian B2B companies. The shows remain an important part of the automation, packaging and advanced manufacturing ecosystem. After the success of the Toronto 2011 event, a Montreal show was created that launched in 2012. Both shows continue today under the brand Advanced Manufacturing and Design.
